SYNODEV was established in 1993 as the development arm of CCAP Synod of Livingstonia. It started as a development committee responding to emerging community needs at Synod level.
SYNODEV envisions self-reliant lead organization facilitating sustainable demand driven community development.
SYNODEV exists to facilitate development processes aimed at socio-economic and spiritual empowerment of the communities in the catchment area of the synod.

Synod of Livingstonia Development Department (SOLDEV) is one of the development arms of the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) Synod of Livingstonia, herein referred to as “the Synod”.
It is one of the 18 Departments of the Synod. It is governed by a Board of Directors. Since its inception in 1993, SOLDEV used to operate in the catchment area of CCAP Synod of Livingstonia which predominantly was the northern region of Malawi however it is an NGO that can operate everywhere in the country.
SOLDEV is a member of the Council for Non-Governmental Organizations in Malawi (CONGOMA) and other networks like the Civil Society Network (CISANET), Water and Environmental Sanitation Network (WESNET), the ACT Alliance, Malawi Humanitarian Partnership Platform, Co-ordination union for the rehabilitation of the environment (CURE) Malawi Scotland Partnership.
SOLDEV has been mandated to implement Food Security and nutrition, Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Economic Empowerment and Humanitarian Response and Disaster Risk Reduction.
SOLDEV mainstream issues of gender, HIV /AIDS, advocacy and disability. It is mostly supported by international organizations. CCAP Synod of Livingstonia Development Department (SOLDEV) is a Local Faith Based NGO, SOLDEV works in the Synod of Livingstonia catchment areas of all districts of the Northern and Central regions of Malawi.
The organization has 28 years’ experience implementing activities in the thematic areas of Food Security and nutrition, Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Economic Empowerment and Humanitarian Response and Disaster Risk Reduction. SOLDEV mainstream issues of gender, HIV /AIDS, advocacy and disability.
